Item Volumetric characteristics and mineralogy of Ogwashi Asaba Formation, Niger Delta Basin Nigeria(European Centre for Research Training and Development UK, 2026-09-15) Obiakonwa, I.E.; Odumoso, S.E.; Osisanya, O.W.; Saleh, A.S.; Ogheneochuko, E.R.The aim of this study is to examine the Ogwashi-Asaba Formation 's mineralogv and volumetric characteristics. During the fieldwork, a variety of well-preserved geological samples were collected from several locations within 'he research region. Standard laboratory and analytical procedures were used to the gathered samples. The sediments are mediunl to coarse grained, poorly sorted, almost symmetrical in terms of skewness, and leptokurtic in terms of kurtosis, according to the results of the various analyses. These characteristics typically indicate sediments from continental and/or mixed environments (transitional). Additionally, the petrographic examination reveals quart: to be the predominant mineral, making up over 85% of the entire mineralogy, suggesting a basement rock as the source. Other heavy minerals were also found, including sillimanite, zircon, and tourmaline. Overall, the study sheds more light on the lithologv, different minerals, and depositional environment Additionally, the study will help with the development and exploitation of natural resources, especially possible hydrocarbon deposits, and advance knowledge of the geologv of the Niger Della Basin.
